fire engine red tree
The United States Postal Service announced today that postage for a letter is going up to 39-cents, from 37-cents. Now, I ask you, would it have been so difficult to bump it up to a nice, round number like 40-cents? Then a book of stamps (which is how I suppose most people buy stamps these days) would have been a nice, even 8 bucks. Now, you’re stuck with two dimes in your pocket. That is, if you still actually use cash these days.

And even if you were to buy a single stamp, you’re still stuck with that penny.

Similarly, priority mail (which is how Latitude send out it’s hard copies) is going up to $4.05. It would have been so much easier to go with an even 4 bucks.

I know, I know, people are going to yell and scream about even two cents. Mail is still pretty cheap in this country, so I don’t see it as that much of a big deal. And besides, most of us use electronic means to send all of our mail and bills anyway. I’m not bitching about the increase, I’m ranting about the absurdity of the penny.

Our Japanese maple tree looks so cool when the sun shines through the leaves in the fall. It looks like it is on fire.
