Snagged from E.bess, who snagged it from another. And so on.
The End of Year Survey
1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before? I bought a house. I went to an anti-war rally. I had one of my photos published in a magazine. Those are all big deals.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? The biggest New Years’ Resolution was to update this blog on a daily basis and while I didn’t quite manage everyday, I was pretty close. It’s a minor thing, but proves to myself that I can at least do something besides lists on a daily basis.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Nope
4. Did anyone close to you die? Nope, not that either.
5. What countries did you visit? Canada, Costa Rica. Then there were also trips to Monterey, Los Angeles and Maine.
6. What would you like to have in 2004 that you lacked in 2003? A winning lottery ticket. That, or some success at my photography career (which I really can’t call a career or any sort).
7. What date from 2003 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? June 14th. That is the day that we adopted the monster-known-as-Sedgwick.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Landed the position as Vice President of Operations at UpSellUSA. That also falls under “scariest moment of 2003”, sort-of.
9. What was your biggest failure? Losing the 40 pounds that I had planned. I lost some of that, but I know that I still have a long way to go.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? thankfully, no. I did fall down the stairs the other day, which could have been a very scary “I broke something” moment, but it wasn’t.
11. What was the best thing you bought? I would say more camera equipment, but that is lame. I guess that would be the house.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? One of the translators that I worked with at FIS, who took a month off and walked pretty much the entire length of France and Spain. I would have some nasty blisters.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? It’s a tie between Bush and Asscroft. Both suck.
14. Where did most of your money go? Mortgage, bills, a new computer.
15. What song will always remind you of 2003? I’m not much of a song person. The only thing that I listen to on the radio is NPR.
16. Compared to this time last year, are you: i. happier or sadder? happier
ii. thinner or fatter? thinner, though not by much. I am working on that.
iii. richer or poorer? If you count the house as an investment, richer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Anything photography related
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Eating. I am a bit better about that, but the diet has been on hold for 6 weeks again, which is bad. After the holidays, now that I am no longer baking, I can improve on that.
20. How will you be spending Christmas? In Las Vegas, and no, no wedding bells in sight (at least not for us, although I hear that Elvis does a nice service)
(21 seems to be missing)
22. Did you fall in love in 2003? I’m already in love, dummy.
23. How many one-night stands? Errr, that would be a big zero, Bob.
24. What was your favorite TV program? Good Eats
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Yes, but that is a story that better left go untold. All I can say is that the person is now out of my life forever, which I can say is pure job. I very rarely hate anyone or anything, but I made an exception. While negative to think about, the positive steps that I have taken to mitigate the situation are positive. I will shut up now.
26. What was the best book you read? The Storyteller’s Daughter by Sairah Shah.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Café del Mar. There was this great Argentinean restaurant in Playa Tamarindo in Costa Rica, that was playing Album #5 and since then I have been hooked.
28. What did you want and get? my new job.
29. What was your favorite film of this year? I can’t say that I remember that either. I do know that I was somewhat disappointed with the second Matrix film, and haven’t seen the third one yet. I really want to see Lost in Translation, because I have heard good things. This weekend is a bad movie going weekend, if you don’t like crowds though.
30. What did you do on your birthday? I honestly can’t remember. This is getting pathetic.
31. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? I think having more success at the photography. I was really hoping to do somewhat better at my gallery showing last summer. I just really need to develop the business plan and then stick to it.
32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003? Suburban. At least I match, which says a lot for my fashion sense.
33. What kept you sane? Ben and Captain Sedgwick
34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? ummm, I dunno. Michael Jackson? (kidding). Tony Blair?
35. What political issue stirred you the most? Oh, where to start with this?! The war with Iraq. The U.S. government going to shit. The loss of personal liberties because we have to be “safe from terrorism”. There are really too many to list except to say that this year was pretty much the last straw with the Bush regime (or should I say tyranny?).
36. Who did you miss? My parents, I guess. But I talk to them all the time. And I just saw them in October.
37. Who was the best new person you met? UpSell people in a nutshell (or is that a nut house?!) :)
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: See question #16.
