This is another picture that I took in Fort Warren on Georges Island. It's the ceiling ventilation shaft in the hospital wing. The sign on the door said that a lot of the Confederate soldiers that were sent there had typhoid when they arrived. Good to know that they vented the room. [grin]
Cool pattern on the actual vent though. Strange how there were so many little details like that on such a utilitarian building.
In other and non-related topics, I also went berry picking again last weekend, again up at Russell Orchards in Ipswich. This time, I picked blueberries (high bush, thankfully) and raspberries. I got there nice and early, picked blueberries in the breeze before it got too hot, but then by the time I hit the raspberries, the heat was headed sky high, the breeze had died and the horse flies were out in force. I last half as long, but still got enough berries to make some nice jam. Now I have strawberry, raspberry and blueberry jam. One more kind (any suggestions? apricot? peach?) and then I'll have nice 4-sets as Christmas presents! (I bought some pretty jars too). |
