turning colors
Today is kind of a strange day. It is quieter than most of the work front (though I have three of four projects that I got out the door early this morning). One of my closest friends, Liz, sent me an email this morning, asking for help translating a document into German. It is a condolence letter; her ex-husband passed away. That threw me for a bit of a loop as Stefan (who was Swiss) wasn’t more than a few years older than I.

Oddly, now that I think about it, it was kind of because of Stefan that Liz and I even met (going on 13 years ago or so). We worked at the same place and when she found out that I spoke German, she asked me for tutoring in the form of conversational practice. She wanted to improve her German for herself but clearly because of Stefan too.

That said, I am a pretty slow translator. I did a decent job before sending it out to one of my professional translators to review. I didn’t even make that many errors, all things being equal.

Unrelated, today is my sister’s birthday, which is a happy thing, not a bad thing. Happy Birthday, Alix!
