Simon and the Cookie
It’s been a week now since I have been back from Germany and I still am just now getting around to posting that I was even there. It was a bit of a whirlwind trip, full of family activities and seeing old friends.

For starters, I arrived to find out that Pete and Liz (Pete being an old friend of Rudi’s) was in Munich, unexpectedly, after a death in the family (his mother’s side of the family is Swiss). He was in good spirits despite that, and it was good to see him again. Rudi, Pete, Liz and I ventured out to Oktoberfest one evening the first night I was there (no pictures; forgot the camera) and then I dragged the three of them on a family outing the next day to the Starnberger See.

Next came little Theresa’s baptism on Sunday. Pictures are up on my Flickr account (bet you didn’t even know that I had a Flickr account, huh?). It was a long, fun day with family and friends. Theresa was great – she didn’t even cry the whole time, even when they poured water over her head. It was a little funny because she was holding her hands together as if praying which was a little surreal for a 3 month old.

The week flew by, mainly because I was sick for most of it and just hung out with Alix and the kids. One day we went to Ikea (typical) and I was very evidently the “chosen one” from Simon’s perspective. He would not let go of my hand, even though I was the one looking at stuff and he could have easily just hung out with him mom.

The following Friday (German Reunification Day) was a Family Reunion in the Black Forest on my mom’s side of the family (more specifically even, it was my mom’s mother’s side of the family). More pictures up on Flickr. I didn’t take a whole lot of pictures that day, for some reason. It was great to see some people that I hadn’t seen in forever. The funniest part by far is that I never needed to say “I’m Heide’s daughter” because I got the “you’re the image of your mother” the whole time. I mean, it got to the point where it was almost a given that people would identify me as “Heide’s daughter”.

Overall I fun time, despite being sick and being too short. This, by the way, is my current favorite picture of Simon – smiling with cookie in hand. I have it framed on my desk now. [grin]
